October 21st

October 21st
I arrived in Joburg a little around 5 p.m. in the evening. I had to go through the security screening for international passengers. It wasn’t terribly stringent, nothing like traveling in the U.S. Once I got through all of the processing at the airport, I had to get in a taxi to the hotel. The other two women I traveled with (there were two other women who missed their flights. I traveled over with them. One was from the Women in Higher Education Delegation and the other from the Dental Hygiene delegation.) They departed from the airport for a different hotel. On the ride in the taxi the first thing that struck me was these breathtakingly beautiful trees with purple flowers. I later found out that they are called Jacaranda. I got to the hotel and checked in with family via e-mail, met my roommate and went to bed. The following morning I availed myself to a very busy schedule.
