A day late, I parted from the Washington DC Dulles airport for Africa. The trip included one stop, in Dakar, Senegal. The distance from DC to Dakar is roughly 6200 kilometers. The distance from Dakar in Northern Africa to Johannesburg, South Africa is 6, 707 kilometers. It struck me that it took more time to fly from Dakar to Joburg, than it took to get from the East Coast of the U.S. to Dakar, Senegal. Africa is an incredibly large continent.
